The Process:

The idea of adoption has been growing inside us for years. In April, 2010, we took our first step:

4/2010- introduced to New Horizons For Children

7/2010- signed up to host Rita for Dec 2010

8/2010- another family chose to adopt her

10/2010- signed up to host Emily

12/ 2010- picked up Emily from Atlanta and had a great host

1/2011- Emily flew home

2/2011- Emily rejected adoption

2/2011- Homestudy completed.

3/2011- began assembling dossier documents

4/2011- unable to pick a child...until Rita was added late!

6/28/11- Picked up Rita in Atlanta and met Ksenija & Lera

7/2011- went to beach, whitewater rafting, horseback riding

8/3/11- met Fletchers, Ksenija & Lera at Six Flags-

Rita asked if we could adopt Lera also

8/4/11- girls all flew back to Latvia

8/2011- Ksenija and Lera file to be separated in court

8/29/11 - Court approves separation

9/2011- Discovered HS agency license expired Sept 30!

9/2011-Mad rush to get documents for 2nd dossier

9/29/11- received renewed HS license!

9/30/11- Got dossiers apostilled...all 110 pages. Packaged and shipped to Wende Neundorfer to hand deliver to Latvia!

10/7/11- Dossiers delivered to Daina

10/10/11- Dossiers sent to translation

10/24/11- Dossiers out of tranlation and to Children's Ministry

11/11/11- Court holds surprise hearing on separation of K&L

11/14/11- Decide to host Rita and Lera for Christmas

11/22/11- Received dossier receipt letter from Child Ministry

12/11/11- Picked up Rita and Lera in Atlanta!

12/25/11- Had our first Christmas together

12/29/11- Found out the girls have to be interviewed again!

Jan 1, 2012- Happy New Years with our girls

1/6/12- Drive back to Atlanta

1/7/12- Overslept- almost missed Flight to NYC!

1/18/12- Latvian kids to fly to Riga at 1:30 pm, delayed till 10:30 pm!

1/17/12- Rita went to Orphan Court to check status- they are waiting on Riga to send papers... Rita contacting Psychologist that will interview girls...

1/22/12- Psychologist said she is not scheduled to visit

1/23/12- Kelly contacted/ prayer request sent

1/25/12- Word from Latvia- as soon as they receive the letter from the Children's Ministry that the Fletcher's dossier has been received, they will separate the girls and the process should go fast. My 47th birthday and first time the girls called me Mommy!

1/26/12- Kelly notified us that our Homestudy expires Feb 21, 2012!!! Contacted agency to renew HS report.

1/28/12- documents gathered, signed, copied, except for medicals, employment verification and fingerprinting. Will get those Monday...

2/5/12- All documents complete and ready to mail originals. Homestudy visit tomorrow at 4:00 with Olevia.

2/6/12- Homestudy visit complete.

2/21/12- Homestudy expired- no status from agency

2/23/12- Found out someone filed a complaint against us around 2/15 that had to be investigated.

2/29/12- Agency requiring 2nd medical opinion- Agency will find someone.

3/13/12- Agency has not been able to locate a Dr. so they will allow me to find one...Dr. found and appointment set for 3/15/12!

3/24/12- Doctor reports received and another meeting with Social Worker- Home Study updates should be complete next week.

4/4/12- Home Study complete by agency and sent to 2nd Agency for review.

4/5/12- Disclosure made to CIS.

4/6/12- USCIS says no need to send Homestudy now!!!!!!

4/12/12- Received updated homestudy in mail. Drove to Jackson to have it apostilled. Emailed apostilled copy to Daina since she is going on vacation starting 4/13!

4/13/12- All originals mailed to the Lindell's to be hand delivered to Daina on 4/22.

4/15/12- Got an email from Daina that our updated homestudy will be out of translation on 4/23, then everything will be notarized and sent to the Childrens Ministry Office just as soon as she gets our originals (4/22!).

4/25- Got court date for 5/15/12...travel on 5/13 (Mother's Day)!!! Referral came a few days later!

5/13/12- boarded flight to Riga, Latvia

5/15/12- Court date- got girls!!!

5/29/12- Court to approve us to host girls while we wait on adoption process.

6/2/12- Arrive in Jackson, MS with our girls

8/7/12- Got date for 2nd court...10/10/12!!!!!!

8/16/12- Start fundraiser...Goal is 7k...7 K in 7 Weeks!!!

10/10/12- 2nd court- but we have a re-do!

1/4/13- Met Mrs. Esther for our Both Hands Project. Working towards Jan 26th project date with Feb 16 as a backup.

1/26/13- Had 29 people participate in our Both Hands project! We had a great day and Mrs. Esther was overjoyed!!!

2/2/13- Flew to Latvia for our 3rd trip (2b) with court on 2/6

2/6/13- We are now the proud parents of two beautiful girls!!!

2/7/13- flew home!

Next trip: 4/13/13- 4/19/13

4/19/13- Final trip done! Flew into Houston and upon touchdown, there are 2 new citizens in the United States!!!

Now we just start living our lives!
